The Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox of 1935 has stood as a fundamental challenge to the completeness of quantum mechanics, rooted in the principle that physical reality at one location cannot be instantaneously influenced by operations at a spacelike-separated location—a tenet known as local realism.

EXPERIMENTAL BREAKTHROUGHS
  • First demonstration of reality erasure via spacelike-separated operations
  • Violation of local realism at 8.6σ confidence level
  • Novel quantum eraser configuration with 98.7% visibility
  • Complete causal isolation verified by RF shielding and fiber delay lines

Through a refined optical quantum eraser apparatus employing entangled photon pairs, we demonstrate that Alice’s local operations can statistically correlate with the erasure of reality of observables in Bob’s causally disconnected laboratory. Our experimental design ensures strict spacelike separation between measurement events, with temporal and spatial isolation verified to within 10^-9 seconds and 30 centimeters respectively.

The apparatus generates polarization-entangled photon pairs via spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a beta-barium borate (BBO) crystal, pumped by a 405nm diode laser. Alice’s station incorporates a Pockels cell allowing ultrafast (≤2ns) polarization rotation, while Bob’s station features a double-slit interferometer with which-path marking capability.
